Ed Dean introduced this morning’s speaker as Palmer Township Police Department Deputy Chief Wayne Smith. Wayne is also Ed’s son-in-law. Wayne’s talk this morning was focused on the new Crime Watch website which the department has joined. Palmer is the second department in Northampton County to join this nationwide system. The online system allows the department to be more transparent about reporting crime incidents. It also gives the opportunity for residents to help the police. The site URL is https://northampton.crimewatchpa.com/palmertwppd/44270.

In this site, Wayne indicated that you can see pictures and details of persons the Palmer PD are looking for or if there is a crime with the actors being seen on security camera their picture will be shown and the PD will ask for your help in finding them. There is a crime registry where warrants are shown. You can directly contact a police officer by phone or email. You can submit a tip on a crime. If you are going on vacation you can electronically alert the police of your trip and much more. Wayne strongly suggests that you go to the website to see what can be done and use it when necessary.

Another thing that Wayne talked about is the township’s Nixle notification system. This system will send messages to your phone or computer about road closures, when trash pickup has been delayed, some police actions that they want to warn residents about, etc. For more information and to sign-up go to the Palmer Township website (www.palmertwp.com) and scroll to the bottom of the home page.
